BHARATPUR

Band Baretha

Band Baretha is also known as Band Bund Wildlife Sanctuary. Band Baretha is situated in the Bayana District of Rajasthan. This ancient wildlife reserve was built by the kings of Bharatpur. At present, it is under the control of Forest Department of India.

FLORA: A number of flowers are found here which add charm to the beauty of this amazing place.

FAUNA:This includes some rare species of animals. Some endangered species are Sambhur, Cheetal, Blue Bull, Hyena, Wild Boar are also found here.

BIRD: Band Baretha is known to be bird watcher’s paradise because it houses over 200 types of birds including the elusive Black Bittern.

Keoladeo Ghana National Park

Keoladeo National Park, formerly known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, this national park holds a place as a world heritage site declared by UNESCO in 1985. It lies between two most historical cities of India- Jaipur and Agra. It was accepted as a national park in 1982, previously it was a bird sanctuary where the rulers of Bharatpur enjoyed their shooting rights till 1972. The name Keoladeo is taken from the name of an ancient Hindu Temple devoted to Lord Shiva and Ghana refers to the thick forests.

FLORA: The flora of the park is dominated by Jamun and Babul. The open woodland is mostly Babul with a small amount of Kandi and Ber. Scrublands are dominated by Ber and Kair. The principal vegetation types are tropical dry deciduous forests intermixed with dry grasslands.

FAUNA:Treat for wildlife lovers. Neelgai, Chital Deer, Feral Cattle are commonly found animals while Sambhar can also be seen at times. Mongoose of both varieties (common Indian Grey and Small Indian), Jungle Cat, Fishing Cat, Asian Palm and Small Indian Civet, Golden Jackals, many species of Rats, Bats, Mice are also present.

BIRD: It is one of the best Bird Watching Destinations in the world as it offers home to both native and migratory birds. It is also the only wintering area for the endangered Siberian Crane.

ALWAR

Sariska Tiger Reserve

Sariska Tiger Reserve was declared national park in 1990, it is situated in the Aravali hills. It is one of the most visited national parks in India which comes under government of Rajasthan.

FLORA: Dhok Trees are found in abundance. Khair, Cheela, Bamboo, Aam, Jamun, Arjun and Bahera are also present. The ground spread is fundamentally Ber, and Adusa.

FAUNA:More than 90% of the area is covered with Dhok trees inhabiting various wildlife species. It is home to various wildlife species such as Leopard, Sambhar, Chital, Nilgai, Four-Horned Antelope, Wild Boar, Rhesus Macaque, Langur, Hyena and Jungle Cats.

BIRD: It is home to India’s biggest population of Peafowl, Harbours Quail, Sand Grouse, Golden- Backed Woodpeckers and Crested Serpent Eagles.

JAIPUR

Jhalana Safari Park

Jhalana Safari Park is situated in the heart of pink aka Jaipur City. It is famous for Leopard. It is said about Jhalana that "if there is tiger in Ranthambhore, there is Leopard in Jhalana”. Social Media have put Jhalana safaris on the global map.

FLORA: More than 450 varieties of plants.

FAUNA: Apart from Leopard, other attractions are Striped Hyna, Desert Fox, Golden Jackal, Chital, Indian Palm Civets etc.

BIRD: This park is must visit place for bird lovers. Birds such as Indian Pitta, Dusky Eagle, Owl and Spotted Owlet are found here. This park houses more than 200 species of birds.

LEOPARD POPULATION: Home to around 14 to 15 leopards.

Nahargarh Biological Park

Nahargarh Biological Park, a part of Nahargarh Sanctuary, is situated in the vicinity of Nahargarh Fort along the Aravali Hills. It is recently opened by the Rajasthan government. In 2016, the Jaipur zoo has also been shifted to Nahargarh Biological Park which makes it more adventurous.

FLORA: 450 species of plants. It provides with some rare herbal species.

FAUNA: Habitat to Tiger, Leopard, Lion, Panther, Sloth Bear, Caracal, Deer, Gharial, Crocodile, Pangolin, Jackal, Wild Dog, Wolf, Hyena, Civet, Ratel, Otter, Fox, Rhesus Monkey and Langur.

BIRD: 285 species of birds. One can spot beautiful birds here.

TIGER POPULATION: 23 Lions and 12 Tigers

AREA: 50 sq km.

DHOLPUR

Van Vihar Sanctuary

Van Vihar Sanctuary was notified as a wildlife sanctuary by Rajasthan Government in 1955. It was initially built by the rulers of Dholpur. It is maintained by the forest department and can be booked in advance by contacting them.

FLORA: This place is full of rich flora. Dhok and Khair Trees are found in abundance.

FAUNA: Sambhar, Chittal, Blue Bull, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Hyena and Leopard. Tiger were present here till the end of the nineteen sixties.

AREA: 59.86 sq km.

BY AIR: Closest airport to this place is Agra which is 55 kms away from the place.

BY ROAD: Sanctuary is situated 18 km from Dholpur.

BY RAIL: The nearest railway station is Dholpur which is about 0.6 kms away from the sanctuary.

SAFARI TIMINGS: It is open from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. on all days of the week. This wildlife sanctuary should be visited in the months of October and January.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: About 40 kms from this place, there is a very serene and picturesque lake called Talab Shahi. This lake was built as a shooting lodge for Mughal Emperor Shahjahan. This lake is home to lots of migratory fowls like Pintail, Shoveller, Red Crested Pochard, Tufted Duck, Common Teal, Garganey Tea, Wigeon and Gladwall.

About 4 km away from the town of Dholpur, there is a sacred place called Muchchhkund. It is believed that this town was named after Kind Muchchhkund who belonged to Suryavanshi Dynasty. He is said to have ruled nineteen generations before Shri Ram. According to legend, Raja Muchchhkund was sleeping here when demon Kaal Yaman (while pursuing Lord Krishna) accidentally woke him up. The demon Kaal Yaman was burnt to ashes because of a divine blessing to Raja Muchchhkund. It is now a sacred place for pilgrims. Some other must see places are Ramasagar Lake which inhabits a number of fresh water crocodiles, fishes and snakes.

KARAULI

Kaila Devi Sanctuary

Established in 1983, The Kailadevi Wildlife Sanctuary is the northern extension of the Ranthambore National Park and falls within the bufferzone of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. It is named after Kailadevi Temple and surrounded by dense forests. The area has wide variety of wildlife. Guests prefer to do a day outing ex-Karauli exploring the area. There are many stunning deep gorges in Kailadevi- Handiya Kho, Dangda Kho, Ganteshwar Kho, Mahesra Kho and Kudka Kho. Must go place for nature lovers.

FLORA: Dhok, Euphorbia and Ber.

FAUNA: Chinkara, Wild bear, Jackal, Tiger, Sloth bear, Leopard, Wolf, Sambhar, Chital, Nilgai, Striped Hyenas and Indian Porcupines. Kailadevi is described as wolves heaven.

BIRD: Vultures, Eagles, can be easily spotted here.

AREA: 674 sq km.

BY ROAD: Kailadevi Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 25 km away from Karauli.

BY RAIL: Nearest station is Kailadevi Railway station (Kota JN) in the Bharatpur District of Rajasthan.

The most magnificent point of safaris are the spectacular river Gorges and ravines known as khos which turns into waterfalls during the monsoon. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from October to May.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: Mandgir, Devgir and Utgir are must go places. Maamchari Lake. Ranthambore National Park which is famous for tigers is two hours car drive away from Kailadevi Wildlife Sanctuary. The Kailadevi Temple is situated 21 kms away. Chambal River is also nearby. Karauli City Palace, Madan Mohan Temple are famous tourist attractions.

SAWAI MADHOPUR

Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and most renowned national parks in India. In ancient times, it was considered to be one of the most famous and favorite hunting grounds of Maharajas of Jaipur. Ranthambore is also known as famous heritage site. Most certainly, visit to this place is a perfect treat for nature lovers. The time spent on watching tigers roaming around, listening to the chirping of birds and serene greenery of this place is absolutely priceless. Must be explored once in life.

FLORA: The flora in this park is mostly of the dry deciduous type. Over 300 species of flora has been documented. The most famous trees are dhok, dhak, Imli, Banyan, Kadam, Khajur, Jamun, Karel, Khejda, Kakera, Mohua , Neem etc.

FAUNA: The park is mostly famous for diurnal tigers. The other animals are Tigers, Leopards, Striped Hyenas, Sambhar Deer, Chital, Nilgai, Hanuman Langurs, Jackals, Jungle cats, Caracals, Sloth Bears, Black Bucks, Indian Wild Boar, Chinkara, Common Palm Civets or Toddy Cat, Common Yellow Bats, Desert Cats, Five Striped Palm Squirrels, Indian False Vampires, Indian Flying Foxes, Indian Fox, Indian Mole Rats, Indian Porcupines, Long Eared Hedge Hogs, Ratels, Small Indian Mangoose, Small Indian Civets and Common Mongoose. The park also contains a large number of Marsh Crocs Reptiles such as Cobras, Rat Snakes, Snub Nosed Marsh Crocodiles, Tortoise, Indian Chameleon etc.

BIRD: In total, around 272 species of birds have been documented. The most important birds of this place include Graylag Goose, Woodpeckers, Indian Grey Hornbills, Common Kingfishers , Bee Eaters, Cuckoos, Parakeets, Asian Palm Swift Owls, Nightjars, Pigeon, Dove, Crakes, Sandpipers, Gulls, Terns, Sparrows, Pipits, Falcons, Flamingos, Bitterns, Bayas, Flycatchers, Treepies etc.

TIGER POPULATION: Total 63 tigers can be seen at this place.

AREA: 392 sq kms.

BUNDI

Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary

Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary provides a variety of flora and fauna. This sanctuary was established in 1982 and forms a buffer of Ranthambore National Park. This place is also referred to as Bundi.

FLORA: Endless grasslands, forests and farms make the vegetation of this place.

FAUNA: Leopard, Sambar, Wild Boar, Chinkara, Sloth Bear, Indian Wolf, Hyena, Jackal and Fox can be seen at this sanctuary.

BIRD: Perfect place to see the migratory birds and kingfishers.

AREA: 252 sq km.

BY AIR: The nearest airport is Kota.

BY ROAD: The distance between Bundi and Ramgarh is 50 kms. It is located close to Bundi on Bundi- Nainwa Road. Ramgarh is connected to Bundi by road. Most of the people prefer to drive to Ramgarh.

BY RAIL: Ramgarh is connected to Bundi by rail as well. The nearest railway station is Darrah which is about 2 kms from the destination.

SAFARI TIMINGS: The best time to visit the sanctuay is from September to May. Jeep safaris are conducted here. Most popular timing to visit this sanctuary is 1 P.M. to 2 P.M.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: Jait Sagar Lake and Moti Mahal are nearby tourist places which people usually visit along with Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary. These places were constructed by the Poddars. Shopaholics can find so many things of their interest at this place. The best time to visit this place is in winters.

KOTA

Mukundara Tiger Reserve

Mukundara Tiger Reserve aka Darah National Park is nestled between two mountains Mukundara and Gargola. The Darah Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as a national park in 2004. Formerly, this park was the hunting ground for the king of Kota. This sanctuary is a combination of three wildlife sanctuaries - Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary, Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaswant Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary.

FLORA: The flora of this sanctuary is very thick and dense. Some of the famous trees of the region are Imli, Banyan, Ber, Karel, Babul, Dhok, Khair, Neem , Mohua, Kakera, Kadam etc.

FAUNA: Panther, Sloth Bear, Wolf, Leopard, Chinkara, Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Antelope, Sambar, Nilgai, Jackal, Hyena, Jungle Cat are the major attractions here.

BIRD: Many kinds of birds are also found here.

BARAN

Sorsan Wildlife Sanctuary

Sorsan Wildlife Sanctuary, situated at Amalsara, Rajasthan is filled with wild animals and natural surroundings.

FLORA: Scrubby vegetation. Main trees are Dhok, Khair, Teek, Babool, Salar, Khilni etc.

FAUNA: Chinkara and Blackbuck, Waterfowls, Greylag Goose, Common Pochards, Teals and Pintails etc. Sorsan is rich with insects during Monsoon season.

BIRD: Sorsan is rich in the season of monsoon when it attracts a lot of monsoon birds. Orioles, Quails, Patridges, Common Pochards, Teals, Pintails, Flycatchers, Larks, Rosy Pastors etc. can be seen.

Sajjangarh Biological Park

Sajjangarh Biological Park is home to various flora and fauna which are brought from different part of the world. The beauty of this park can be measured by the fact that it received over 46,000 visitors within in a month of its inauguration in 2015.

FAUNA: Himalayan Black Bear, Jungle Cat, Leopard, Tiger, Sambar, Striped Hyena, Lion , Indian Porcupine, Common Fox, Sloth Bear, Chital, Blackbuck, Jackal , Chousingha, Chinkara,White Tiger, Gharial, Marsh Crocodile, Star Tortoise etc.

MOUNT ABU

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the only hill station of Rajasthan, Mount Abu and one of the oldest mountain ranges, the Aravalis.

FLORA: Being situated on the hill station, it is full of floral bio diversity. Here we can find more than 81 species of trees, 17 species of rare medicinal plants, 28 climber species and 89 shrub species. This is where you can spot orchids.

FAUNA: The animals found here are Common Mongoose, Sambar, Indian Leopard, Wild Boar, Common Langur, Indian Hare, Pangolin, Porcupine, Sloth Bear and Hedgehog.

Machiya Safari Park

Machiya Safari Park is basically the zoo of old heritage zoo of Jodhpur. This safari has a fort inside the park. This fort gives nice view of sunset.

FLORA: Inside the park, there is a fort from where one can get a picturesque sunset view. We can find Neem, Peepal, Bargad, Gular Trees inside the park.

FAUNA: The Machiya Safari Park is an abode to numerous wild animals like Deer, Desert Fox, Monitor Lizard, Blue Bulls, Rabbits, Wild Cats, Mongoose, Monkeys, Chital, Lion, Leopard etc.

BIRD: There is a bird watching spot exclusive for bird watchers from where you can enjoy the movement of birds.

BY AIR: Nearest airport is Jodhpur airport.

BY ROAD: It is situated near Kalyana Lake on the Jaisalmer- Jodhpur Route.

JAISALMER

Desert National Park

If you are a wildlife enthusiast, then Desert National Park must be in your list. It is home to lots of exotic animals and birds. It is an excellent example of desert ecosystem and the park remains open throughout the year. This was declared a national park in 1980. It is the only place where state bird (the great Indian Bustard), state animal (Camel), state tree (Khejri) , State Flower( Rohida) are found naturally.

FLORA: More than 60 percent of this park is semi arid desert. Ronj, Khair, Rohira, Dhok, Khejri, Palm Trees, Ber, Aak Shrub, Sewan Grass are found here.

FAUNA: Some of the famous animals are Chinkara, Black Buck, Sand Grouse, Desert Fox and Cat, Desert Gerbil, Fringe-Toed Agama Eagles and Blue Bull, Camel, Hedgehog etc.

BIRD: Desert National Park inhabits one of the heaviest birds in the world, the endangered Great Indian bustard.

AREA: 3162 sq km.

BY AIR: Nearest airport is Jaisalmer airport.

BY ROAD: Jaisalmer is well connected with all the big cities of India. Desert National Park is about 40 kms from Jaisalmer.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: There are some lakes which are a worth visit in the Desert National Park like Padam Talao Lake, Rajbaugh Lake, Milak Lake are the main water sources for the animals dwelling in this sandy environment. Other nearby places to check out are Jaisalmer Fort ( Sonar Qila or Golden Fort), Bada Bagh, Gadsisor Lake, Sam Sand Dunes, Kuldhara Village, Khaba Fort, Patwon ki Haveliyan etc.

BIKANER

Jorbeed Conservation Reserve

Jorbeer Sanctuary is a dumping ground for the carcass of Cattle and Camels in the district of Bikaner. The sanctuary has the Camel Research Centre on one side and the City of Bikaner on the other for Bird watchers this is the best place to be. One more type of birds it is famous – birds of prey. At the Jorbeed Carcass Dumping Site in the outskirts of the city, many Vultures and Eagles can be seen feeding on the dead animals or sitting otherwise.

FLORA: This sanctuary has a very limited plantation of Neem, Khejri, Selvadora, Ber, Kher etc.

FAUNA: Chinkara, Nilgai and Desert Fox are seen regularly.

BIRD: This site is famous for the congregation of birds of prey. Some of the prominent species include Steppe Eagle, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Bonnelli’s Eagle, Cinerous Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, King Vulture, and Griffon Vulture amongst others. Amongst the exotic species one can spot the Saker Falcon, which is a winter passage migrant and the Yellow Eyed Pigeon.

BY ROAD: Jorbeed is well connected with the city. One can easily go by bus or hire a taxi.

Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary: Besides historicity of Bikaner, this place offers some natural getaways. Formerly, it was a hunting ground for Maharajas of Bikaner. There is a lake in the sanctuary and animals come in the summers to quench their thirst. This is the proposed forest for the reintroduction of the Cheetahs in India.

FLORA: It is located in the desert area.

FAUNA: The main species which can be seen here Wildfowl, Antelope, Deer, Neelgai, Chinkara, Black Buck, Desert Fox and Wild Boar.

BIRD: A number of varieties of birds can be found here.

BY AIR: Nearest airport is Nal Airport which is 27 kms away from the sanctuary.

BY ROAD: This sanctuary is situated about 32 kms away from Bikaner. One can hire a taxi or book a cab to visit the sanctuary.

BY RAIL: Nearest railway station is Gajner Railway Station.

SAFARI TIMINGS: 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Jungle safaris are the most popular. Visiting duration is around 2 hours.

SHEKHAWATI

Tal Chhapar Sanctuary

Tal Chhapar Sanctuary is named after Chhapar Village. This sanctuary is an extremely peaceful place. In February 2006, Tal Chhapar was included in the itinerary of "Heritage on Wheel" Train. Now tourists have opportunity to visit the sanctuary twice in a week by train.

FLORA: This sanctuary is mostly covered by grass with very few trees. The forest of this region comes under tropical forest. In this place, a typical type of grass is fout.

FAUNA: This place is famous for Blackbucks. They can be spotted here round the year. The sanctuary is a home to nearly 1680 Black Bucks. Being a natural home of Blackbucks and you can easily see 500-700 animals in a single herd. It is the only sanctuary in India in which is having a good number of Blackbucks in an almost tree-less, saline and flat-land. These Blackbucks have “Mothiya” for their food.

BIRD: Migratory Bird such as Harriers passes through this sanctuary during the month of September. Birds commonly found in this sanctuary are Eagle, Sparrow, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Tawny Eagle, Short Towed Eagle, Little Green Bee Eaters, Green Ibis, Demoiselle Cranes.

AREA: 1344 sq km.

BY AIR: Jaipur airport is the nearest which is 185 kms away.

BY ROAD: Tal Chhapar Sanctuary is situated in the Churu district of Northwestern Rajasthan in Shekhawati region of India. It is Situated 210 kms away from Jaipur. Lies on the Nokha- Sujangarh State Highway and 85 kms away from Churu. Tourists can take a bust or hire a taxi.

BY RAIL: Chhapar is the nearest railway station to Tal Chappar Sanctuary and is located in the Degana-Churu-Rewari Line.

SAFARI TIMINGS: Heaven for both October to March is the best time to visit this place. It remains closed from September to February. Horse and jeep safaris are conducted.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: Salsar Balaji Temple is 35 kms away from the sanctuary. Sethani ka Johara, Gayatri Mandir, Babosa Mandir and Ghanta Ghar are few other places to club together with this visit.
